Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has put out a new blog post about a recent study of Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), medication, and driving among adults. The new study did not focus on teens, but Dr. Huang of CHOP offers comments about what this new research implies for teen drivers with ADHD, and their parents.
As veteran readers of this blog know, my son Reid struggled with ADHD. During the eleven months that he had his license, during which he drove crash free, he took his medication regularly, and it is our belief that on the night of his fatal crash he had taken his regular medication on his regular schedule. This said, CHOP’s new post emphasizes the additional responsibility and adjustments necessary when a teen driver is afflicted with ADD or ADHD.
