Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, a leading researcher of the causes of teen driver crashes, has published new results based on their testing of teen’s use of driving simulators. CHOP reports that among those tested, the three most frequently occurring errors by “novice teen drivers” were these: (1) inadequate braking in a hazardous situation; (2) following too closely; and (3) not scanning sufficiently before making a left turn. For both driving instructors and parents, this is a great diagnostic tool and source of advice: when teaching driving skills, make sure to concentrate on these three problem areas.
