There are some apps that purport to make teen driving safer, but I am not sure are effective. This category includes apps that claim to disable texting while a teen is driving. As readers of this space know, I liken that to giving a teen driver one piece of technology to disable another; instead of taking the bomb out of the car, we give teens a tool to defuse it, but we leave the bomb in the car. (Thus, my mantra on texting is that the cell phone goes in the glove box before driving and stays there until the car is turned off.)
But I like apps that both audit a teen driver’s conduct on key safety parameters of safe driving, AND report violations to parents. So, the new app described in the link below, developed by the University of Minnesota, seems like a good one.
